A Botch Plot

What were they thinking? How could the Gilmore Girls showrunners conjure such a botch plot? You are probably thinking that there is no botch plot in the Gilmore archive, but I'd have to disagree. The Rory/Dean affair at season four's finale and season five's beginning was a botch plot. It spoiled Rory's character, making her tainted in my eyes. Now don't get me wrong, I still love Rory, but the Dean affair just made her more human and definitely made her a notch below Lorelai in my book. Every time I watch my season four and five DVDs, I skip past those parts. And taking that kind of action breaks my heart, for I feel that I am missing a part of Gilmore Girls. I've never done that in the past, not with any show. But watching Rory make side glances toward Dean, almost kissing Dean, kissing Dean and then sleeping with Dean is something that I do not care to relive. Yes, it would have been great if Dean was not married, but "Rory, he's married." And my moral compass is still in shock and screaming "terrible, just terrible." But even with my animosity toward this episode, I have to hand it to the writers for going to a place that other shows would have avoided because it straddles an immoral/moral line that could have been catastrophic to the ratings of the show. So kudos. But never, I mean never, try such a stunt again. Please!

I feel the same way. It changed the way I look at Rory.

Part of me wants to admire the writers for making Rory into more of a flawed character, but a larger part of me is just miffed. :)

Let's put it this way: a lot of smart people do dumb things. There are very few smart people that do the objectionable thing. Let's just take the Unabomber. He was a smart man who did the unthinkable.

Rory had to be shown as flawed. However, this was one jump that I think Rory would've never done had she been in real life mode and not written by Team Palladino.

I skip the adultery thing on the DVD. I skip the whole puppy-dog prancing Rory did around Logan. I know I will skip the whole Lor-asking-'rents-and-taking-in-Rory-after -telling Lor-they'd-stick-to-her-strategy.

I have a feeling I should've just bought the iPod shows of the GG I've liked this season. It would save me the $40 they'd be asking for in the end.

Couldn't agree more? I spent way too much on seasons (like GG and others too) when I just watch bits and pieces. That's a whole lot of money on my end, for I own dozens of DVDs.

That's my big problem with the show. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be watching it if I didn't like it, but believability isn't one of its strong points.

All the drama around Luke and Lorelai -- will they ever get married? will they break up? -- is an example of that. I'm betting that Luke and Lorelai will get married, but the writers' trying to keep us on our toes about it is getting old.

Still, the show has never become completely unbelievable for me. I'll keep watching until it does.

Well, A S-P did say that L&L would go through some ups and downs, but I didn't think that it would take this long. I'm about to die from boredom. Where's the spice, the glamour that was once GG? Guess it went down the toliet when A S-P and her hubby decided to go daytime (refering to daytime dramas as Days and General Hos.).
