A Wish Or An Error
According to Ausiello over at TV Guide Online, GG's creater Amy Sherman-Palladino is out. She has opted not to renew her contract and will be leaving Gilmore Girls at the end of this season. And oh, yes. She is taking her husband, Dan, with her. And in Ausiello's words, "AS-P wanted a two-year pickup, a demand that Warner Bros. refused to meet since Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel are only on board for one more year. Instead, the studio was ready to pay them just shy of $5 million for a one-year deal, an offer that was apparently good enough to refuse."
So there you have it. Amy splits on account of a contract. But don't worry, though, the WB is still singing Amy's praises: "While we are disappointed that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino have decided not to stay with the show next season, we are very confident that Dave Rosenthal, an experienced writer/producer with the show, will make the transition seamless moving into the seventh year of Gilmore Girls. We want to thank Amy for creating and nurturing this wonderful series for the past six years and giving us one of the most memorable mother/daughter relationships in television history."
The only question left is: Is this a wish or an error? I'm leaning toward a wish, but then again Amy was the creater, the one who had the GG vision. So I just don't know. How about you guys and gals? What are your thoughts?

Again, as long as we have a sense of consistency (which was terribly lacking this season), I think things would be fine. Helen Pai is staying on so there's at least one person who we know who's been there since GG's creation.
Hey, I'd step up as writer. How much do you think they'd pay?

From what I've seen of your writing, they might pay you a niffty amount. I'd go for it.
And great to hear Helen Pai is staying. She's done great things in the past.

I don't know if this is such a good idea. Taking the creator away might destroy the show, for many other shows in the past it has happened.

I do agree that there is something lost when the creative heads of a show have departed. However, sometimes it takes something THAT drastic to make the changes necessary for growth.
Again, I post exhibit Season 6. We could've seen a better, more transitional growing pain kind of season between Lorelai and Rory and what we got was soap opera-ish drama. We could've had the Luke/Lorelai drama of a non-wedding without the presence of April. Again, I don't hate April like the lot of the fans had but her presence and Luke's avoidance of the issue to have Lorelai uninvolved is unreal, real or TV-wise.
Paul Anka... Really. What and why would a dog make that much of a significance of a story that it BEACAME a filler episode? I would've preferred another Emily breakdown or a day in the life of Caesar over Paul Anka and the neurosis of a dog.
They have made Lorelai pathetic rather than loveable. They made Rory looke emotionally stunted compared to her wise teen years. They made Luke look like a wishy-washy character and they made the Inn look like a place no one really cares about.
I may be partial to Daddy and Mommy Palladino but I don't think giving them 2 years to finish out Rory's graduation in Yale would make the show more loveable. If fans stopped caring because this season was subpar, having a writing staff that can make more believable fillers would get my support.
Just don't let me hear that Paris and Doyle have moved from Kama Sutra Krav Maga to Cirque du Soleil menage-a-trois.
And thanks for the kind writing words. Makes me blush. :D

You have summed it up in a nutshell. This year has been nothing but daytime, so if the behind-the-creator writers can step away from it, then more power to them.

I agree Donut Shop. They did a stupid dream sequence just to have the dog in the show. What? Can you get over the other characters and focus on the main ones.
