Flight Reflex

Lorelai Gilmore is a complex Gilmore character. She has brains, beauty and wit that will leave any person amazed, but what makes her so complex is her quirky ways and eccentric habits. She loves to tease, hates to lose and survives mostly on caffeine. She's free spirited and strappingly subborn. But what makes her so dense, so complicated is her self-hidden, but viewer-visible flight reflex. Our pal Sookie had the reflex nailed to the floor in the first season when she teased Lorelai about her getaway dance...her cha-cha-cha-ing.

Let's retrace Lorelai's flight reflex, shall we? It all began in the childhood years, when Emily Gilmore tried to mold the poor little Lor into a fancy young lady of high standards and great etiquette. It must have built from there because, as Lorelai grew up, her flight reflex grew to gigantic proportions. And though she didn't choose pregnancy as a planned escape from high class, Gilmore hell, Lorelai seized the opportunity to bolt. And the reflex to flee didn't end there. Lorelai has found herself in many circumstances that force her to run like the wind. The first that we, the viewers, really are able to see is Lorelai's Max getaway dance. And she doesn't just do it to him once, but twice. Max I getaway dance caused the burning Paris to leak the Max/Lor relationship all over Chilton, and Max II getaway dance ended in a roadtrip and Yale tour. As the Gilmore years and seasons progress, Lorelai continues to frolic in this habit. When Rory's boat incident changes the course of their relationship, Lorelai dives head first into rebuilding her house and proposing to Luke. Then when April appears, the reigning Lorelai dodges Luke's stance with April and eventually dodges Luke. But after a backseat thearpy session, Lorelai confronts Luke and their "issues" only to bolt when Luke's answers don't fit her wants.

What do you suppose keeps her from dealing with conflict? Could it be my "Emily and her rich people ways" theory? Do you know of any other flights that our gal has done? Do you like this character trait? Do you think it's way over played, that Lor should have evolved by now? And when I say "flight reflex," do you think of Felicity?

GG Update

I have taken it upon myself to look up the latest news about Gilmore Girls's seventh and possibly final season. With Amy Sherman-Palladino and her hubby gone, some might feel a little cumbersome about the new season. We might not know how the newly promoted writer Dave Rosenthal will turn the show or how he will mend last year's tragedy, but I can inform the fans of some intel of what's to come next year.

GG Intel:
* The season will cover at least 22 episodes.
* Matt Czuchry has signed on to return for at least 13 episode, the same arrangement he had this season.
* Kirk will keep up an appearance in the new season.

Rumor has it that Christopher will be back next season, but I haven't found anything official.

Hope this little GG update will give you something to pass the time away. I hope to post an article, but I don't know when I'll get inspired or how I will find the time. So please bare with me.

Once More With Feeling...

From the preview clips, we all knew that Lorelai was to confront Luke. But as the episode aired, came and went, things didn't fire up until the end. And I posted that night the ending of all GG endings in just four words -- Lor in Chris's bed. But I'm still in a bundle from the GG finale, and I thought that I'd post something better on the episode for Lindy's sake (because she didn't get to catch it). So here's a post just for you Lindy (though all are welcome to respond).

Hide and No Seek:
Luke comes looking for Lor. He has already checked the Inn and when he comes looking at the house, Lor ducks and hides in Rory's room. Patty is the one who gets rid of him because she has been looking after Paul Anka, who apparently is more like her fourth husband. But can I say one thing -- Patty never fails to amuse me! She ignores Luke's pondering Lor questions by running wild with her imagination -- Luke in tights. Ha. That shut him up. And got him gone. What gets me though, is that Patty accepts the excuse of a lovers-quarrel from Lorelai, but back in season five everyone was up in arms when Luke and Lor didn't return home together from Em and Ric's vow renewal. Crazy, I know. Aside from Patty's dismissal, I loved having her character in the finale, even if it was short lived. She is just a whoot to have on the show, and any Patty time is great time for me. Okay, moving on.

The Graduate and The Learner:
Logan is set to graduate, and all he can see as he gets ready is flashes. Yep, Rory has gone crazy with the camera. She is taking pictures like there is no tomorrow, and one is of his butt. "It's not a keeper," she says, "it's a screensaver." Ha. Ha. She actually craked me up with that one, even now it makes me giggle. Yes, giggle. Okay, Logan graduates. So he accomplished something, but he isn't the only one to accomplish something. Rory learns from the most unusal person -- Mitchum Huntzberger, who else? -- that she has to let Logan grow up. "It is time for him to stop jumping out of planes in gorilla masks. And getting blaster. Ending up in a hospital." "Now, Logan is going to grow up." I couldn't agree with you more, evil Daddy Huntz.

Typical Emily:
What's a finale with out a little Emily? She is just as brilliant, vibrant and devious as ever. Emily sets Chris up with a friend's daughter, I forget her name, and the whole time she is clearly trying to match them. I guess it's a good thing that Ma Gilmore is so forthright, because it made for some entertaining parts, especially the *looks* that Lorelai and Chris shared throughout the whole Firday night dinner on account of the surprise pairing. But I was even more floored when Chris runs to catch Lor in the bathroom and asks her to save him. Ha. He contemplated sneaking out by trying to recall some of the old spots. It reminded me of Lorelai giving directions for Rory's escape at the Male Yale party. Then the best thing happened -- Just before Chris exists the bathroom, he...so gently...so naturally rubs Lorelai's arm, like it's the most common thing in the world. *I about doubled over in happiness. LOR AND CHRIS FOREVER, BABY! Back to Lor saving Chris. While seated at the dinner table, Lorelai keeps interrupting Emily's gun-ho matching by asking about ridiculous dreams, phobias and such. They were so funny that I actually felt like I was in season one. It had the freshness of that season to it, no? And Chris's reactions...well, he actually was about to burst. He had me cracking up all by himself, and he didn't do a darn thing. Anyway, I was thinking about Emily. She's scheming, right? So she could have intentionally invited Chris and set him up with a girl in order to dangle him in front of Lorelai in hopes that Lor and Chris...well you know. I know, I know. I'm reaching.

All Troubadours All The Time:
That is right. Stars Hollow is the troubadour music spot. And if you are thinking that Town Papa Taylor isn't happy, then you'd be right. And as usual, Taylor voices his opinions out loud. He insults the hippy-dippies right outside of the dinner by telling them that they didn't have any talent. Oh, yeah. At that moment, when Town Papa screams it, I just kept imagining that all of the troubadous swarmed and beat him up. It would have been a great way to get Town Papa back in the electric wheel chair. Ha. That would have been something to look forward to. Later on, Taylor gives up, of course after he puts up a good fight. I even have to admit that the troubadours all the time wasn't a great ASP idea. It got tiring let me tell you. They were everywhere. Singing at the same time. Horrible, just horrible. There was this one song: "A Beaver Ate My Thumb". Weird. Oh, so weird. And freaky. Freaky, too.

It's Now Or Never:
Lor confronts Luke after a backseat therapy session with the girl Emily try to match Chris with. But before I jump there, I'd like to recall a few things discussed in the therapy session. Max was mentioned. I'm glad, too. I felt that that should have been brought up, since she almost married him. And then something that caught me off guard. Lorelai said, "I've never really loved anyone before Luke" (I don't think that's true; I sure hope that's not true). And then the girl said somthing along the lines like, "you don't have Luke now, not the way you want to have him." I thought that was genius. That line was so great. Lorelai must have thought so too because she seeks Luke out after that. And the rant that we have all been waiting for: "Let's elope." "I Love you Luke; I love YOU." "Do you care about me?" "I've been waiting for along time and I don't want to wait anymore." "You are going to have to figure out how April fits into our lives, not the other way around." "No. I'm not waiting. It's now or never." Wow, huh? It still gives me shivers. And it left me thinking that she should have thrown her ring at him. Or at least in the grass. LOL.

The Goodbye:
A party. A keg. A blonde wig. A bad British accent. A red hat and red outfit. But it's bittersweet all the same. And when Logan asks Rory to tell him not to go, I felt a lump in my throat. He seemed so sincere, so loving, so not the evil Son Huntz at the beginning of season five. Then the alarm went off. He's pulling the sheep's clothing over his head. But all things are saved when Rory finally learns that she can't ask him that. And so she said. It's like the season 1-3 Rory. Aside, the big, tear jerker ending comes when Logan wouldn't let her go and say goodbye at the airport. She starts to freak out. But he keeps things calm by telling her that he paid for the apartment for another whole year. For her. Sweet, huh? Then Logan draws even more of my tears as he kisses her and says, "I love you, Ace." He's gone and out the door. I'm shouting "oh, yeah. Oh, yeah." But then she runs to the door and sees him as the elevator door shuts. And all that I can process is that he still has his cane. How sad for him.

I Guess It's Never:
Lor in Chris's bed. That's all I'm going to say, since I feel that those four words conveys everything. Well, maybe I should mention the morning after events. After all, Gigi was so sweet. A complete turn around to the middle of the season. Okay, so what's so funny and cute is that as Chris is getting Gigi ready for school she sees Lor naked in the bed and says, "Who is that?" "Is she sick? I don't like to wear my nightgown to bed when I'm sick either." Hee. Hee. And after Chris tells Gigi goodbye because the nanny's taking her to school (what else did you expect? Chris has money.), Chris takes off his robe (Yeah, just boxers. Shoo. He's so hooooooot, like fire.), gets back into bed and hugs Lor up. That's it. That is how it ends. How wish fulfillment is that? Huh?

Oh, Yeah. Rory's Building:
Remember the money that Ma and Pa Gilmore were going to donate to Yale on Rory's behalf for a building? Well, they presented the model building right before Rory bailed on Friday night dinner. The lettering is so huge, it'd be about 30 feet high if built to scale. And you'll never guess what it's called or what kind...The Rory Gilmore Astronomy Building. I know, astronomy? Guess Ma and Pa decided that there were too many libraries. And oh, I almost forgot. There's going to be a portrait of Rory inside. I just hope that next year writers will pick up with this one.

Okay, gals and guys. Here ends my post of the finale called Partings. I know that you guys have probably hashed it out already, but if there is something you'd like to rant, chat or carry on about, then please do. And Lindy, I hope this was helpful in giving you a picture of what happened in season six's last installment.

* Quotes are from memory, so excuse any misquotes. And correct me if I just missed the whole thing.

** (I know that "Once More With Feeling" is Buffy, but I thought that the title represents what I'm feeling right now.)

People Change

I know that the category..."People Change"...can be so broad and lengthy that I decided to focus on just one person -- Jess Mariano. Last night as I rewatched season six's The Real Paul Anka episode, I started thinking about Jess's GG premiere and his character. We know Jess was knee-deep in some sort of parental pain, whatnot with his nonexistent father and carefree mom. He speaks common sense and literally grasps knowledge beyond his level (though his efforts are at zero). This boy when on the verge of manhood taught himself well, without the help of anyone. But what really manipulates his character and his attitude is Rory Gilmore. This girl turns his world upside down! At first, Rory just intrigues the boy -- a small town girl with beauty and brains. And before you know it, Jess bends over backwards (making good with her mom, helping Luke and all such things) to win Rory over. His methods do pin her in a bind with Dean, but his efforts don't go un-noticed by anyone. His compatibility matches Rory end to end, and every viewer has voted Jess over Dean. I remember back when season two was airing; I would have given anything for the two to get together. Jess seemed to be a better person when he was with Rory. But when season three rolled around and Jess landed the smart Rory, his character seemed to drop...off a cliff with a canonball tied to it. He changed for the worse. He treated Rory all wrong, skipped school and treat Luke even worse than when he arrived in Stars Hollow (the lying and such). I know that writers wrote him this way, but I hated his change all the same. Hello, he left Rory alone for her graduation without the decency to tell her that he has split. So I was glad that Rory upper-cut him with her words in season four's finale by telling him no. He deserved it, and I guess he knew it because his season six appearances have really showed him in a new light. A light that has matured him and corrected him. He is successful. He wrote a book. He has a mag, book and whatever else store with a couple of his buddies up in Philly. I'm glad that Jess has reinvented himself with a splash of season two, and I'm even more happier that his character has a purpose. Saying his name, Jess Mariano, brings whole another sensation to the air. And I like it this way, whether he is a regulare character or not and whether he has Rory or not. It might have taken Rory to shake some sense into him, but without Rory in his life, Jess has made himself first-rate.

What do you guys think? How is Jess in your eyes? Do you have a favorite Jess season or episode? Is he better with Rory in his life or without Rory in his life? And how do you think she has impacted his life?

GG in Reruns

Hello bloggies,

Our fast pace, mother/daughter show is making the rounds again for its sixth season. The WB has already disclosed the season premiere episode New And Improved Lorelai this past Tuesday. The program-runners over at The WB will continue to parade the hot-and-cold season throughout the summer, as far as I can tell. So whether you wish to rewatch for pleasure or pain, remember to catch Gilmore Girls at 8:00 pm eastern time on its regular night, Tuesday.

* I'm working on a post, so be patient.

Gilmore Gossip

Okay guys and gals. I have some Gilmore gossip. I say gossip because I haven't found anything official, and I hope I don't. From some unofficial site, I keep hearing that The Complete Sixth Season of Gilmore Girls will not contain extras. There will not be no bonus features. Now, I have no official news. I'm only giving you guys a heads up, so if I've been mislead I already apologize. But if someone has information of any kind, please feel free to scream it at me in the comments.

P.S. I normally don't post gossip or rumors, but this one hit me hard. So naturally I thought I'd share it with everyone.

Forever In Love

When we first see Christopher, he rides up on a 2000 Indian in front of Taylor's grocery store. He gets off his bike and tells Lorelai to take off her shirt. He's sly, quick witted and completely gorgeous. And he has more than a similar left earlobe to his first daughter Rory. He lies when it's convient, but his heart has always been in the right place and always been for one -- Lorelai. The problem is that he's a high class man and not just in wealth. When Lorelai got pregnant by Chris, he was willing to marry her not only because he loved her but because it was the right thing to do. When one gets pregnant, one gets married. It didn't go over with Lorelai, who lives by her own measurement. And when Chris was put in a similar situation with Sherry, he goes and does the honorable thing. He doesn't love her, well he didn't love her like he is in love with Lorelai. Lorelai was the one to shake his world. The one to walk up and kiss him because she wanted to know what it felt like. She has been the one to make an impression on him. He's never forgotten her. She is the one he measures other women by. So he will always be forever in love with Lorelai.

But who is Lorelai forever in love with? That is the question. On one hand we have Chris, and on the other hand we have Luke. It's the triangle. And the triangle is dangerous. It has three edges and someone is bound to get hurt. We've seen over and over again just how dangerous it can be. When Lorelai was ready for Christopher, he was not ready. He loves her unconditionally, but he's never been ready to tackle Lor every minute of the day. That or Sherry gets pregnant. And when Luke and Lorelai were ready, a thorn was thrown into the mix -- April. This thorn screwed with Luke. It knocked him out of his element. He has struggled to find a new meaning, and in the process over the season, he left his desire for Lorelai out in the cold. He neglected her. But does that make him a bad guy? He's her Mr. Fix It, but we can't all assume that he'll always be that. Of course, he'll probably be the best coffee source in her life. He'll provide her with what she needs. And he'll always ground her because it's his nature. But what about Chris? He was her first, her first in so many things and ways. He is from her world. He matches her in wit and knowledge. Chris even has an impact on her. He weakens her in the knees. He arouses her emotions...anger or otherwise.

With everything that's happened, I'm voting for Christopher Haden. Hot Chris. Luke has pissed me off with his selfish needs. You have a daughter Luke, so get over it. Deal with it, and move on. You are too late anyway. Ha! I have to tell you all that Lorelai in Christopher's bed was just great. It has made me giddy, and oh, so happy. As you all can tell by this post.

Four Words

All I have is four words: Lor in Chris's bed.

I think that my head has stopped from exploding so that I may think. Lor in Chris's bed. If I don't say it enough, I loved the episode. Well, I loved the last minute. Lor in Chris's bed. It felt right. It looked right. It was just too right. I LOVE CHRISTOPHER HADEN. HOT CHRIS. I LOVE AMY SP AT THE MOMENT. She has definitely given me something to deliberate on. And I must say that I'm a little scared at what's to come. How are the new writers going to play from the finale? Was Chris and Lor using protection? If not, are the new writers going to give us a pregnancy scare? Or are they gonna give us the pregnancy? OMG! This is why I love GG. I've just got so much madness, and yes, some of it's from the LoVe thing that happened in the season two finale of Veronica Mars. But wow! This was some Tuesday.

Okay. So tell me what you all think. Is Lor and Chris's sexual decision a good thing? How did it make you feel? Does Luke deserve the "you're too late" speech if he comes running back next season? Do you think that Luke and Lor have any chance now? And just to through this out there...who do you think is Lor's true love?

Sweet Emily and Richard

I was surprised as any of you, when Emily told Lorelai that she and Richard had been looking for a house to buy for Luke and Lorelai. During there whole Stars Hollow house hunting, never did it cross my mind that Emily and Richard were planning to buy a house not for them. The Gilmore writers did a good job of hiding the endeavor, and I want to pay tribute. I don't think that I've ever been surprised on Emily and Richard's end, and I must say that I didn't hate or dislike it. It was a good thing; it was a wonderful thing, actually. And the fact that it made Lorelai finally crack under the whole crappy thing with Luke was just an added bonus. Who would have thougth that Emily would have been the one to suck Lorelai out of her funk? Not I. I mean she wasn't able to do it at the dinner before, so what made her do it now? My money's own the surprise. People always react differently when their overwhelmed, and Lorelai was surely overwhelmed by this act of kindness. So I would have to believe that Lorelai caved from her normal emotional stance that she has with her parents to tell her mom about her worries because of the surprise. It was just so sweet, and out of character for both. But I think sweet Emily and Richard fits for this occassion.

What do you think? Were you just as surprised as I was? Or did you expect it? Come on, lets discuss. Did you really think that Emily and Richard would leave their expensive house for a mid-grade in some out of the way town?
